Peanut Butter Cake!

For the last wedding I did the groom requested a chocolate peanut butter cake.

Hmmmm . . . how exactly does one do that?!

Here's how!

Make a PB cake and a Chocolate Fudge cake, then torte them.
For filling I used a fudge frosting and Reese's Mini's

It was pretty much heaven!
You know it's good when the bride and groom request a slice of the groom's cake
 and not the wedding cake.

Peanut Butter Cake Recipe:

1 box yellow cake mix (don't think less of me!)
1 1/4 cup water
1/4 cup oil
4 eggs
1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
8oz sour cream (full fat)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup flour
2 tsp vanilla
1/3 tsp salt

Mix together in mixer and bake in a cake pan as normal
350 degrees for 50 mins
This makes two 8" round cakes.
If you are going to torte it with chocolate cake, you only use one of the layers.
Either freeze the extra or make a torte for a neighbor . . . like me!

The peanut butter cake recipe comes out moist with a nice "creamy" flavor.
Not overwhelmingly PB

I feel stupid for not taking a pic of the cake slice to show you,
especially since it was the slice I sat in front of and devoured personally.
Here's a great example of a "torte style cake"

Happy caking and torting (sp?)

Tie Dye Effect!

Let's get groovy!

I figured out how to give a tie dye effect on frosting . . .
it's kinda awesome!

Check it out!

I coated with sides with sprinkles . . . because sprinkles make EVERYTHING better.

Topsy Turvy with Buttercream

WARNING:  Not my best video or prettiest cake . . . but it is what it is.

Mmmmkay?

I wanted to give you guys a visual for a super basic Topsy Turvy construction.

Popcorn Cupcakes!

Adorable popcorn cupcakes . . . without popcorn.

I looked at a TON of ways to make "popcorn" for cupcakes and some were crazy complicated and others were . . . popcorn.

Popcorn tastes gross with frosting so I had to find middle ground.

Here's what I came up with!

DYI Cake stands and Cupcake towers!

I've discovered it's much easier to make a tutorial and "show" you how to do something with a video on
You Tube than with pictures!

Cake Stands!!!

I buy stuff from Good Will,
Dollar Store, Walmart, Hobby Lobby . . .

get creative and buy epoxy!

Evolution of a Wedding Cake

I thought it would be fun to record a wedding cake construction from beginning to end.

I set it fast forward for fun and so I look a bit like a cake ninja ;)

Enjoy!

More petal tip fun!

I've been experimenting with different tips and I've had fun piping buttercream onto cakes instead of just spreading the icing on.

Here's a cake done completely with a petal tip:

The top was ruffled in a circular pattern from outside to in.

The side where piped with the "fat" side of the tip against the cake and the thin side angled slightly outward.

Clear as mud? ;)

Happy caking!

Teresa
